Vice President Richard Nixon, right, shook hands with Fayette County Patrolman Ted Hughes on Oct. 8, 1954. Also pictured from left are Patrol Lt. James Bivens, Patrolman George Mulberry and Assistant Chief Leo Kelly. At the time of the photo, Nixon had been President Eisenhower’s vice president for almost two years.
