William S. Dotson was among 300 Kentuckians preparing to leave Lexington on August 26, 1983, to participate in the Aug. 27 march in Washington, D.C. to commemorate the 20th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s 1963 “I Have a Dream” speech. Dotson, who attended the original march, was active in the civil rights movement in Lexington and was president of the Lexington chapter of the NAACP.
