Fayette County Courthouse remodeling was reported as progressing ahead of schedule in this February 1961 photo whited showed Grover Cleveland welding above one of the upper floors. Steel framework was being put in on the second, third and fourth floors. In 1960 and 1961, the interior was extensively renovated to provide more courtrooms and offices. These renovations included removing the interior “Y” stairs and closing off the dome. Yesterday the city unveiled the restored dome of the former courthouse as part of a sneak peek of the ongoing $32 million renovation and restoration project.
