Hundreds of people stood in line on Feb. 28, 1983, at the Fayette County Courthouse to re-register their vehicles. A new law that went into effect at the start of the year was intended to reduce the long waits, but the transition period meant motorists had to wait … and wait. The new law called for all motorists to register or re-register their vehicles on their birth month. Under the old law, re-registration was due on the month of a vehicle’s purchase.
