Southland 68 Drive-In, 1961

Hughes inspected a speaker on Aug. 12, 1961, at the new Southland 68 Drive-In Theater on Harrodsburg Road in Jessamine County, just across the Fayette County line. In the background is the backdrop for what was billed as the “world’s largest drive-in movie screen.” The drive-in closed in the mid-1980s and is now Bellerive Plaza, which includes a Kroger store.
