Keeneland yearling sales, 1949

The bay son of War Admiral-Lady Lark brought the top price of the night on July 28, 1949, at Keeneland’s summer yearling sales. Hip number 390, consigned by Mereworth, sold to George Ring for $27,000. In the background are auctioneers George Swinebroad, left, and Joe Palmer. Keeneland’s 2015 September yearling sale, the world’s largest Thoroughbred auction, starts Monday, Sept. 14. A total of 4,164 yearlings are cataloged for this year’s sale.
