South Broadway railroad crossing, 1978

Posted on November 10, 2015 | in Uncategorized | by
Traffic on South Broadway was frequently delayed by this railroad crossing, as seen in this 1978 photo. After years of study and planning an underpass was built to alleviate the traffic congestion and opened in the fall of 1987. At center, next to the tracks is Boots Bar, a popular night club. At extreme left is Coomer's another popular night club. Direct access to both businesses was cut off by the new underpass and this portion of South Broadway became a dead end at the tracks.
