Junior League music program, 1949

Sixth-grade student at Arlington School were took part in a supplementary music program sponsored by the Lexington Junior League, one of several programs the organization conducted in local schools in February 1949. The students, listening to music from a radio, from left: Evelyn Young, 11, Victor Ruble, 12, Shirley Ivey, 12, Bobby Kidd, 12, Janice Diamond, 11, Johnny Riddell, 11, and Billy Conley, 12. Students in all schools enjoyed a music listening period from 10:45 to 11 a.m. every Friday for 16 weeks. The initial radio program, “Mendelssohn,” was held in connection with a music-appreciation series in city, county, private and parochial schools. Photo by Ralph Looney | Staff
