Traffic on South Broadway was frequently delayed by this railroad crossing, as seen in this 1978 photo. After years of study and planning, an underpass was built to alleviate the traffic congestion and opened in fall 1987. At left next to the tracks is Boots Bar, a popular nightclub. At far left is Coomer’s, another popular nightclub. Direct access to both businesses was cut off by the new underpass, and this portion of South Broadway became a dead end at the tracks.
