University of Kentucky housing, 1946
In September 1946, temporary barracks-style housing was set up for incoming University of Kentucky students at South Limestone and Euclid Avenue. Published in the Lexington Herald on Sept. 20, 1946.
House moving, 1950
Workmen had to saw this house in half to move it from 307 North Limestone to a lot on Roosevelt Boulevard in 1950. Published in the Lexington Herald on May 27, 1950.

Adolph Rupp, 1946
University of Kentucky basketball coach Adolph Rupp looked over a scouting report in December 1946. With Rupp were assistant coach Harry Lancaster, left, Lester Kling and Ed Lander. Published in the Lexington Leader on Jan. 30, 1947. Rupp was born Sept. 2, 1901.
Exploring Crystal Cave, 1950
A group from Transylvania College, now Transylvania University, including Dr. Willard Rouse Jillson, head of the college’s Geology Department, Bob Jones and Oscar Hinton, explored Crystal Cave in Pulaski County in October 1950. The cave would soon be under water as Lake Cumberland was created by impounding the Cumberland River with the Wolf Creek Dam. This photo ran with a story about the creation of Lake Cumberland and the flooding of the Cumberland River valley. The story and photo were published in the Lexington Leader on Oct. 31, 1950.

The first class of the Appalachian School of Practical Nursing graduated at Good Samaritan Hospital in 1952. From left, Cora R. Commonwealth Stadium expansion, 1999
Commonwealth Stadium expansion in January 1999 included enclosing both end zones with more seating. Also added were 40 suites, 10 in each corner of the stadium. The expansion, which cost $27.6 million, included new video boards, new scoreboards and additional restrooms and concession stands. It also raised seating capacity to 67,942. UK students waiting for football tickets, 1984
A group of UK students waited outside the ticket office at Memorial Coliseum on Sept. 4, 1984, for the “good” seats to become available for UK football’s 1984 season opener at Commonwealth Stadium. The group had been waiting since 8:30 a.m. for the release of tickets at 6 p.m. for sections 208 and 210. The line on the left was for the rest of the seats.
