The University of Kentucky’s Antoine Walker and Walter McCarty helped double-team Wake Forest’s Tim Duncan, as Anthony Epps, left, stood by to help during the Cats’ 83-63 win in the NCAA Midwest Regional Finals in Minneapolis on March 23, 1996. Frustrating Duncan consistently with aggressive traps and double teams, UK limited the Wake Forest star to two field goals. So effective was the Cats’ defense that Duncan, a junior, didn’t score a field goal until 12 minutes remained in the contest. “They did a great job on me,” the ACC player of the year said. “They were very aggressive double-teaming and trapping. They probably played me better than anyone has done all year.” Kentucky would go on to win its sixth national title nine days later. Duncan, a five-time NBA champion, retired Monday after 19 seasons in the league. Photo by Mark Cornelison | Staff
