Phil Simms, 1978

Morehead State University quarterback Phil Simms in 1978.  Simms was born in Springfield, Ky and grew up in Louisville, graduating from Southern High School. He attended MSU compiled a 9-28 record but his 5,545 yards and 32 touchdowns caught the eye of several NFL scouts. He was drafted in the first round in 1979 by the New York Giants with their seventh pick. Simms played his entire professional career with the Giants and was named MVP of Super Bowl XXI, after he led the Giants to a 39Ð20 victory over the Denver Broncos and set the record for highest completion percentage in a Super Bowl. He went into broadcasting after his playing days and currently works for CBS calling NFL games. Photo by Ron Garrison | Staff
